Internal Policy

The need to impose rules on the personal use of social media by employees outside the company [Cosenza, 2014] originates from the fact that the use of social, makes it difficult to distinguish the border between public and private, between official and unofficial, making potentially dangerous to the company comments on the brand or on competitor’s product. For this reason, an internal policy model has been adopted to remedy unpleasant incidents [Cosenza, 2014]:

  • The personal use of social media during working hours is not explicitly prohibited, but must not compromise individual and group productivity.
  • If you manage the editorial staff it is necessary to explain that the opinions expressed are personal and do not necessarily reflect that of the company for which you work. In any case, the action of each employee must be based on fairness and therefore avoid attacks to competitors or other situations of conflict of interest.
  • Even for those who won’t play an active role in the communication plan, it is always a good idea to declare that you are an employee of the company when you express an opinion regarding the employer’s field of interest.
  • Even outside of the duties performed, it is strictly forbidden to reveal sensitive or not yet public information (for example, revenues, future plans, information on consumers or on developing commercial agreements).
  • Living a space in the net means knowing the rules that the community has been given and respecting them, with honesty and fairness, preserving their values.
  • When coming across discussions about the company or its group that are particularly critical, you should inform the project manager promptly.
